MMS Band Earns LGPE Recognition

by Kacey Atkins and Arianna Morris, student journalists

Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) is a yearly performance where performance arts students show off the skills they learned throughout the school year. It’s also a day for directors to show off their amazing conducting skills. LGPE for school bands is held in Stockbridge at the Fairview Performing Art Center, typically it falls between March 18th and the 25th.

Many band students love LGPE and love showing off their talents to the 3 judges who rate the band from poor to superior. This year the McDonough Middle School band got superiors on their prepared pieces.

In a recent interview, 8th grader, Derick Coleman said that LGPE was “A good experience but exhausting.”

Viorel Martinez a 7th grader at MMS when interviewed said “I feel very professional when performing at LGPE.”

It is this feeling of professionalism that Mr. Sharpe pushes the band to work towards ensuring they continue rising to the top.

The judges who rated the band were Ryan Dukes, Frank McKinny, and Christine Kramer. All judges said the MMS band was a very talented group of students, and they can’t wait to see what else is in store for future concerts.

McDonough Middle School will participate in LGPE in March of next year, It will again take place at the Fairview Performing Arts Center. Some advice for future LGPE performers; make sure to practice well before the time comes. If you have any questions make sure to ask, not just the band director but also your fellow band members.
