Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! As we step into a brand-new school year, I'm filled with excitement and optimism for all that lies ahead. This year, our guiding theme is "We Are One: Connected and Committed." These words speak to the heart of who WE are as a SCHOOL COMMUNITY. We are united in our shared purpose--- to nurture and challenge every learned--- and committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Our dedicated faculty and staff have been working intentionally to prepare meaningful learning experiences, strengthen relationships, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all. We know that academic excellence thrives in a culture of connection and collaboration, and we look forward to continuing that partnership with each of you.

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Alabama State University, my Master’s in Post-Secondary Education from Troy University, and my Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.

Currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Education with a focus on Middle Grades Mathematics and Language Arts.

With 20 years of experience in education, I remain deeply passionate about supporting children and fostering their growth. I believe that education is the key to success, and I live by the quote: “Every child can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way.”

I am thrilled to serve and to be an integral part of your child’s educational journey. I look forward to working collaboratively with each of you this year — because truly, teamwork makes the dream work!

Assistant Principal - Mr. Bates

Mr. Bates is an experienced educator entering his 19th year in the field and his first year as an assistant principal. He completed his undergraduate studies at Talladega College and earned his graduate degree from Grand Canyon University. Additionally, he holds a Tier 1 Certification from the University of West Georgia. Mr. Bates has a profound passion for education and believes in the importance of connecting with students. His personal quote is: "You cannot teach a child if you have not reached a child." Jonathan values community and believes that "it takes a village to raise a child." He is looking forward to joining the village of McDonough Middle School to help raise your scholar.

With 10 years of experience in education, I proudly serve as the 8th-grade assistant principal at McDonough Middle School. Having worked in both elementary and middle schools as a classroom teacher and Literacy Instructional Coach, I bring a well-rounded perspective on the academic and developmental needs of students.

In my role, I am dedicated to supporting students during their crucial transition from middle to high school. I focus on fostering academic growth, character development, and preparing students for future challenges. I collaborate closely with staff, families, and the community to create a positive and engaging learning environment that empowers students to excel.

I am passionate about promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and resilience, and I often remind students: “Why be good, when you can be GR8!” – a motto that encourages them to always strive for their best.
